School Meals

Here is our current school meals menu:

Our school meals follow the national standards for school meals.

Our meals are produced freshly every day in a school kitchen from only:

  • fresh meat and poultry sourced from the region;
  • fruit and vegetables sourced regionally where possible, using local suppliers;
  • products free from additives associated with health problems in young children;
  • fats free from hydrogenated oils; with
  • menus that are nutritionally balanced

We are fortunate to have our own kitchen in school and an amazing cook, Mrs Welsh.  Excellent school meals are provided and are available for all pupils. Vegetarian and special medical diets are also catered for and the cook will work closely with families to meet the needs of all.

Children who do not have a school meal may either bring a packed lunch or go home for dinner.  We strongly encourage children to stay for a school dinner as it is a time when staff and children can be together in a relaxed social situation.

We hold special family meal events when parents are invited in to have a meal with their children., for example at Christmas and Easter.

The current price of a school meal is £3.40 (£17.00 per week). Dinner money should be paid in advance on ParentPay (Login details can be obtained from the school office).

Some children may be eligible for free school meals, details about which are available from the Area Education Office, for from our own school office.

Free School Meals

Free school meals are available to children whose parents are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
  • Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

If your child is entitled to free school meals, you will receive a letter confirming the date when the meals will start. The school is also notified that your child is entitled to free school meals. In the meantime, you should continue to pay for free school meals until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange a reimbursement of any monies paid whilst your entitlement is being confirmed.

If you are not entitled to free school meals you will be notified in writing.
